Victor Carl Eliason was born on May 14, 1936, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Norma Eliason. Oscar Eliason is perhaps best known for the gospel song, “Got Any Rivers?

In 1954, after growing up in Cook, Minnesota, Vic was planning on attending technical college in Minnesota when God called him to the ministry.

Vic graduated from Open Bible College, in Des Moines, Iowa, and was ordained in October 1957.

In 1959 Vic and his wife, Freda moved to Milwaukee to become Bible club director of the Milwaukee, Wisconsin chapter of Youth for Christ. Each week he would lead twenty Bible clubs throughout southeast Wisconsin. As Vic recounted, “The salary was $50 a week, no health insurance, no guarantees.” Later he was promoted to interim director of Milwaukee Youth For Christ, becoming full director shortly after.

In May 1961 the first radio broadcast went on the air with Sacred Stylings, a 30-minute radio program on WBON-FM in Milwaukee. As listeners responded, the programming increased to a full broadcast day. In 1970 the ministry, then renamed the Wisconsin Voice of Christian Youth, purchased WBON for $315,000 and renamed it WVCY-FM. That radio station became the flagship of the network now known as VCY America, heard on over twenty owned-and-operated stations, and dozens of affiliates.

In 1978, VCY Christian Schools opened serving K-12 students in Milwaukee, eventually with campuses in Wisconsin Rapids and Tomah.

In 1980, Vic filed with the Federal Communications Commission an application for VCY to begin broadcasting on television. This led to the launch of Milwaukee’s first Christian television station, WVCY-TV 30, in January 1983. Vic also hosted the nightly live talk show In Focus that aired on WVCY-TV.

As a leader in Christian broadcasting, Vic was elected to the board of the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) where he served for 18 years, and served also as the president of the Midwest NRB chapter.

A pioneer of live call-in radio, Vic hosted Crosstalk, a nationwide daily hour-long call-in program on issues of concern to Christians. Guests included pastors such as John MacArthur, Christian speakers including Ken Ham, and leading political figures such as Governor Scott Walker and Governor Mike Huckabee.

Over the years other broadcasters have come to Milwaukee to learn from Vic and have been able to spread the gospel thru  Christian broadcasting across America and around the world. One such station, Operation Nehemiah, is on the air in South Sudan thru the support of Crosstalk listeners.

In 1998, Vic led VCY to reintroduce Bible Camps as the ministry acquired Trail Ridge Camp and Conference Center, a 375 acre campground in southwestern Wisconsin.

In May 2001, Vic was awarded an honorary doctorate at the 74th Annual Commencement exercises of Bob Jones University.

In 2008, Vic was included in the panel at the Value Voters Presidential Debate in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

On May 15, 2011, Governor Scott Walker proclaimed that Sunday as WVCY Day in honor of the 50th anniversary of the VCY Radio ministries.

Vic also hosted monthly Rallies at the Waukesha Expo Center, featuring guest speakers, new Christian films, or musicians. The Expo was regularly packed as hundreds and often over a thousand people would come to these events.

Vic ministered in many churches over the years through “Singspirations,” an evening gathering featuring favorite hymns and gospel songs as well as many of the stories behind the music. Homespun Harmonies, airing at noon on VCY radio, features Vic introducing some of the classic gospel songs. Overnight listeners to VCY enjoy Music ‘Til Dawn, a collection of quieter hymns and inspirational poems narrated by Vic. Viewers of Inspiration Time with Hilton Griswold would often notice Vic accompanying on the organ.

On December 5th, 2015, Vic entered into the presence of His Savior, where he heard the words, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

  6. I became a believer in Jesus Christ in 1974, age 10, at a boys and girls bible study group. Soon after that I started listening to WVCY FM with Vic Eliason. Through his radio ministry my family became born again. I became involved in the youth ministry and singing in its’ choirs. I attended WVCY Christian School High School, the first graduating class. Vic Eliason was the President of the school. Vic was a wonderful christian model firm in his faith in God. I was in the christian singing group, New Life Singers. Vic was the leader for the group. It changed my life. He changed my life. Listening to WVCY grounded me in my christian faith. I know that Vic is in heaven enjoying the presence if God. He will be missed. I am praying for the family and all the lives he touched.

  7. Mr. Vic Eliason – a gentle and genteel man worthy of all honor and praise. I met him at a music workshop sponsored by VCY America a few years ago, and felt very blessed. Music til Dawn is an inspiration and one of my favorite programs on VCY-FM 107.7. Thoughts and prayers to the family and colleagues @ VCY. He will be missed, but never forgotten. To God be all the glory.

  8. I wanted to meet brother Vic to thank him for all that he’s done for me. Your station is and will be a part of my life till the day that I go home to see my Lord Christ. What impressed me the most was the time tested convictions he shared with all of us. Now its my turn to carry the torch and to speak boldly the truth as Vic did. I had the best teacher, Praise God for his life here on earth, I will miss him so very much. May the Lord bless Jim and the staff at VCY America

  10. I lived for 13 years in a small home in northern WI where we had no TV reception. Vic Eliason and VCY America on the radio were my constant companions. I am rejoicing that today Vic sees the Lord as He is and is praising His Savior in perfect pitch with the heavenly choirs. We will miss you in this life, Vic but so look forward to seeing you again. God bless and comfort his wife and family. Praise the Lord for his faithful bondservant Vic Eliason!

  11. Vic was a stalwart follower of Jesus Christ. He has always maintained the ministry of VCY with the fundamentals of Christianity and the Holy Word of God. His number one goal in life was to Honor Our Lord and Savior and to do His will. If you were to compare him to types of ships, I would say he was a battleship for the Lord. He was loved by many because of his steadfast devotion to our Lord and service to Him whom he adored. Glory be to God! Good job Vic!

    1. There are three voices I could recognize anywhere, my moms’ my dads’ and Vic’s. I heard him all the time and if it wasn’t for him I probably wouldn’t be a Christian today. He’s blessed me so much and I thank god all the time for his life. I can think of no one more happy now than him, in heaven singing in his perfect glorified body and probably playing a piano in the presence of his great lord and savior singing praises forever. I can think of no one more built for that then him. Praise the lord for the life of Vic Eliason
